Really great book about how it all came about, packed with photos, interviews, artwork, etc. Oh, and if you're interested in the history of the books, I highly recommend You Are the Hero by Jonathan Green. I was fortunate enough to go to a Fighting Fantasy convention last year, and got to meet Ian Livingstone, Steve Jackson and a whole bunch of people involved with the gamebooks. I also loved Spellbreaker for the story and setting. Dead of Night had brilliant illustrations (by Martin McKenna) and a wonderful gothic atmosphere. Return to Firetop Mountain for reasons mentioned above. These books were hugely influential in terms of getting me into fantasy I remember buying Return to Firetop Mountain from a school mail-order catalogue and it blew my mind. I own the entire collection (all 59 of the original gamebooks, plus the novels, some of the advanced stuff, the guides (Titan, Out of the Pit) and some of the newer books too).
